The Classic Car Club held its annual members day parade recently, with an array of classics ranging from MG’s, Triumph’s and Mini’s to Rolls Royce’s. The classics started the event in Colombo and proceeded to the Pannala race track, where a host of events were successfully organised. There were sprints, where the old cars were raced at exhilarating speeds through the straight section of the race track.
The relay entailed two teams racing against each other, on the entire circuit. Spectators witnessed classic cars being driven with passion and enthusiasm. It was really an experience to see rare MGAs going round corners in full opposite locks, with a lot of tire squealing and wheel spin.
A highlight of the day was seeing the Range Rover Evoque course car, lead the classics onto and off the race track. Spectators witnessed the Evoque being driven at speed around the circuit too. Many of the classic car owners were given drives around the track in the Range Rover Evoque. The general consensus was that the Range Rover Evoque excelled on the race track.
In an interview given to CSN, SML Frontier Automotive Managing Director Sheran Fernando, agents for Land Rover in Sri Lanka said that their interest in sponsoring the event was to showcase the iconic Range Rover Evoque, against some of the most sought after cars in the world, in order to reiterate the fact that the Evoque is a design icon in its own right, which is why it is one of the most awarded SUV’s ever produced.
