CMSC Sri Lanka Karting Circuit Championships

The third round of the Ceylon Motor Sports Club - Sri Lanka Karting Circuit Championship saw over 100 drivers in action at the Bandaragama Karting Circuit on Sunday, 1 December. The 800-metre long karting track out of which 571 metres is the rental track for this event,  designed and built to international standards, is arguably the best and the largest in the country and the ideal location to host the event. A number of young up-and-coming drivers as well as seasoned drivers on a mix of new karts used the opportunity to show off their skills in six categories. The event saw some young drivers between the ages of 12-16 in action in the Novices K1 category, giving those present at the picturesque track the opportunity to witness some classy karting. Kevin Perera won the first final of the day, clocking 7 minutes 32.421 seconds to finish the 10-lap event, showing signs of a future racing star with a best lap time of 37.799 seconds. Kevin recorded the fastest lap time among the winners of the finals, despite some tough competition from first runner-up Jason Carron and Kiaan Ahamed who was placed third. The Novices K2 champion was Ayesh Bandara who took 7 minutes 50.274 seconds to finish the event ahead of Binu Indula De Silva and Ramkumar Theepakumar in an exciting race to book a podium finish. The Novices K3 category was won by Shayamal Mendis who took 7:43.988 seconds, outperforming Janidhu Seneviratne who gave him a good fight. Saman Perera came in third. Damith Weerasinghe did not have any difficulty in winning the Intermediate K2 category with a timing of 7:21.360 seconds. He also recorded the fastest timing among all winners of the third round of CMSC-Sri Lanka Karting Circuit Championship on Sunday. Mohomed Raees Uyaim and Ushan Perera secured second and third positions respectively Nadeera Jinasena proved too fast for Ravin Vannitamby and U.C. Perera in the Intermediate K3 event. Jinasena clocked 7:23.617 seconds but the trio was seen engaged in a tough battle to be the first to cross the finish line. The Ladies’ event was won by Mukeeta Manukulasuriya who spent 8:46.023 seconds for her 10 laps. Tatum Hertogs and Ashvitha Wickrama were placed second and third respectively. The fourth and final round of the CMSC-Sri Lanka Karting Circuit Championship will be held in January at the same venue. The championship is sponsored by wow.lk and David Peiris Motor Company Ltd. Competitors who wish to own their own kart can buy them at the Karting Circuit with attractive leasing facilities provided by Assetline Leasing Company Ltd. The championship is organised by the Ceylon Motor Sports Club and Sri Lanka Karting Circuit.
