Commercial Credit gives shock defeat to defending champs HNB in MSBA League Basketball

Maheel Egodawatte (22) and Amila Ratnayake (14) turned full throttle in the second half to hand over HNB an upset, 71/59 win over the defending Champions, Commercial Credit & Finance PLC, in the 26th MSBA League Basketball Tournament 2016, Men’s “A” division match at the Edward Henry Pedris Court early this week. HNB held on to a one point lead (31/30) at half time.

While HNB advanced to the Semi Finals, Commercial Credit’s fate in the tournament will now be decided after their last match against NTB “A”.

In another Men’s “A” division match Roshan Randima (20) and Isuru Perera (14) played their hearts out to lift Union Assurance PLC to a creditable, 70/64 win over NTB “A”. The bankers led 32/31 at half time Union Assurance, thus advanced to the Semi-Finals. 

Men’s “E” Division 

Mobitel, MillenniumIT, Amana Bank and WNS Global advanced to the Semi Finals. 

Mobitel beat CDB 55/50 after leading 28/23 at half time; Lahiru de Silva (18) and K. Koshan (16) were the match winning shooters for Mobitel. 

MillenniumIT beat IFS and R&D International 46/35, after leading 24/16 at half time. 

Amana Bank beat Abans Group, 72/55, after leading 39/26 at half time; G. Giwantha (20) and N. Laqman (18) were the match winners for the bankers.

WNS Global beat Airport & Aviation Services 65/40, after leading 26/20 at half time; Chanuka Perera (23) and Nipuna Samarakoon (17) were the top shooters for WNSG.
