They say cricket flows in the veins of every Sri Lankan, if there was ever a way to prove that then it’s undoubtedly when the Big Match season dawns upon the city of Colombo. With parades taking to the streets and alma-mater flags hoisted up high with pride; schools go head to head at a cricket match that goes down as one for the history books! One of the most awaited matches, the encounter between Royal College and S. Thomas’, or the ‘Battle of the Blues’ as it is popularly known, takes its 135th turn this year around. The match will take place on 13, 14 and 15 March at the SSC Grounds with Continental Insurance Lanka Ltd. (CILL) backing it full on as the event’s Official Insurance Partner. The sponsorship cheque was generously handed over to the Principal of Royal College and the Warden of S. Thomas’ College by CEO of Continental Insurance Gerry Gunadasa, at the launch event which was held recently. Having partnered up with what is considered to be the most looked forward to sporting and social event in the calendar of present and past students of the two most renowned high schools in Sri Lanka, CILL takes this as an opportune moment to portray the essence of supporting good sportsmanship. “Going along the lines of what we stand for,” said Gunadasa on the new partnership, “…we find that the Battle of the Blues has redefined the whole concept of an inter-school cricket match and built itself up to be this large scale sporting event that not just emits the result of a loss or triumph; but also encourages an idea of passion, determination and a sense of togetherness among both young and old generations alike, which ultimately contributes in setting up the foundation of this nation’s future.” Continental Insurance Lanka looks forward to the results that are set to unfold with this partnership and is enthusiastic about reaching out a helping hand to other such events as well. Going past the norm of other players in the industry, CILL undoubtedly fulfils their vow of –‘Service, Redefined’. Continental Insurance Lanka is a company engaged in General Insurance business in Sri Lanka and is a member of the Distilleries Group of Sri Lanka (DCSL Group).
