Anuradha Indrajith Cooray has been named captain of the Sri Lankan contingent for the 2016 Rio Olympics, the National Olympic Committee announced yesterday.
Cooray, 38, is Sri Lanka’s national record holder in the men’s marathon and 10,000 metres events. At the 2004 Athens Olympics he finished 30th out of 113 runners in the marathon, while more recently he finished 14th at the 2015 London Marathon.
Earlier this year he also took silver at the 2016 South Asian Games, losing out to India’s Nitender Singh Rabat in a close-fought finish.
