Corporate firms to compete at Chamber Cricket Championship

64 teams representing the local corporate sector will battle it out at the Chamber Cricket Championship 2014, which is expected to take place on 7 June, at the Colts Cricket Grounds, Colombo.
Organised in view of the 175th anniversary of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, the tournament, which will be a ‘Six-a-Side’ contest, will see teams from top corporate firms taking part.
Among them ranks teams from HSBC, Standard Chartered Bank, AIA Insurance, Akbar Brothers, Commercial Bank, Ansell Lanka, Hayleys Advantis, George Steuart’s, MAS Intimates, Hayleys Group, Hameedia Stores, Gamma Pharmaceuticals, GAC Marine Services, Empire Teas, Intercom Private Limited, Lanka Special Steels Limited, Link Natural Products, Fantasia Elastics and many more.
The sporting event also sees representation from the Ceylon Association of Ship Agents, Colombo Stock Exchange and the Sri Lanka Association of Inbound Tour Operators.
Captains of all the participating teams were called in for a pre-tournament meeting by the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce recently, in order to brief them about the structure of the tournament.
Each team will consist of six players and two reserves, while the composition of the team needs to be five men and one female player, the first round matches will be held on a league basis, with a league comprising of eight teams and each team playing seven matches. The teams who win most number of matches during the league state will go into the knockout stage. The last few matches are expected to be played under lights, for which arrangements have been made by the Chamber.
The winners will be awarded the CCC Challenge Trophy, while the organisers will also choose the ‘Best Player’, ‘Best Female Player’, ‘Best Batsman’ and ‘Best Bowler’ of the tournament.
The tournament will be conducted in accordance to the M.C.C. laws and regulations, and Haritha Perera, a former first class cricketer and a well known cricket commentator will be spearheading the tournament on behalf of the CCC.
Standard Chartered Bank has come forward to be the sole sponsor of this event.
The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce has organised all facilities such as food and drinks in abundance, marquees for weather, chairs and tables for comfort etc., to be available at the venue, the Colts grounds for guests/supporters of the playing teams to enjoy a day of full of fun.
