Ceylon Tobacco Company (CTC) women’s tag rugby team were crowned champions of the inaugural women’s mercantile tag rugby 7’s competition that was held recently. The champion team, outplayed their opponents Virtusa by trying their way to a triumphant victory in the tournament final with a score of 5 – nil.
The 46th Mercantile 7’s kicked off on the 17th July, 2016 at the CR & FC and its inaugural introduction of the ladies tag rugby tournament saw the victorious CTC claiming its ultimate prize. Ceylon Tobacco’s Women’s team claimed its first victory in the tournament as they beat their challengers Office Network by planting 3 tries with a final score of 15 – nil.
Captained by Kushani Dassanayake and her teammates Melissa Jayawardene, Aqeelah Fowzie, Achini Wikramanayaka, Sachi Premarathne, Aneesah Fowzie, Nimesha Palliyaguru, Anupamali Perera, Harini Munasinghe, Harin Munasinghe and Dulari De Silva were coached by Esala De Livera Tennekoon.
