CWW Kannangara: Testimony of success of WPRFU development program

Western Province Rugby Football Union (WPRFU) powered CWW Kannanraga Borella who qualified to play ‘A’ division rugby in 2015 after a spectacular season this year. They were able to overcome more established rugby schools such as DS Senanayaka, Mahanama and Prince of Wales to complete a memorable season.
Western Province Rugby Football Union, one of the most powerful rugby unions affiliated to Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union (SLRFU) has had CWW Kannangara in their development program for a considerable period of time. The Borella school has been the beneficiary of sizeable financial and other assistance under this development program.
Speaking to the Daily FT, WPRFU President and former CH & FC, Sri Lanka Sevens captain and national Selector Nazeem Mohamed said, “We are delighted to see CWW Kannagara make it to the big league. Our program has been extremely successful and we have seen schools such as Royal Panadura, Lalith Athulahmudali and St. Johns Nugegoda emerge through this program. Our Current program covers over 20 schools across the province and employs 10 development officers on full time basis. Next year we are planning to identify one or two high potential schools and take them under our high performance program. Nazeem ended by saying that CWW Kannangara will be dark horse in next year’s tournament, are sure to beat one or two big named schools in the Schools League.
