Damro to sponsor Ragama Cricket Club

Damro, the largest furniture manufacturer in South Asia and a leading retailer of furniture and home appliances, has come forward to sponsor Ragama CC, a leading local cricket club.

Since Damro was established in 1986 the brand has achieved rapid success and has expanded to over 150 showrooms island-wide with 60 showrooms in India. Formed in 1989, the Ragama Cricket Club is known to be one of the top cricket-playing clubs in Sri Lanka and is the brainchild of three keen cricketers: Roshan Abeysinghe, Roshan Iddamalgoda and Uditha Wijesundara. It is also the only first class cricket club in the Gampaha District. 

The club made its debut in the major cricketing arena by playing the division three tournament organised by the then BCCSL. RCC created history in 1995 by scoring 465/7 in 50 overs in a limited overs match, a feat which was published in cricket’s Wisden Magazine of July 1996.  Some of the outstanding cricketers produced by the club include Indika De Saram, Kaushalya Weeerarathne, Darshana Gamage, Malinga Bandara, Ian Daniel and Michael Vandort. Current Sri Lanka caps are Lahiru Thirimanne, Roshen Silva, Udara Jayasundara and Amila Aponso. 

Ragama CC qualified to play first class cricket in 2000/01 when they emerged as runners-up in the Sara Trophy tournament. RCC has its own clubhouse and a modern gym and restaurant unique to the Gampaha District.
