Darin Weerasinghe and a team of eight, which comprised of trainers and members at High Octane Fitness, participated at the Inaugural National Power Lifting Championship on 3 October held under the sporting code of Sri Lanka.
Power lifting which comprises of three lifts squat, bench press and deadlift where the highest total of all combined lifts is taken into consideration before declaring the winner, is a very intense sport which ensures athletes train for maximum strength and power.
The Powerlifting Nationals had a participation of over 90 athletes from various corners of Sri Lanka and a very skilled unbeaten team from Sri Lanka Army.
The national power lifting championship has been won by the forces over the past seven years. However, this year the team from High Octane Fitness stepped up to the challenge. Darin and Ransilu Jayathilake, both experienced power lifters who have won medals in the Asian Championship and at overseas meets with many national records to their name, led the High Octane Team to overall victory with three Gold medals, three Silver medals and two Bronze medals, beating all other teams that participated, including Sri Lanka Army and other gymnasiums.
The Gold medals for High Octane Fitness were won by Ransilu Jayathilake, Deeptha Widanapathirane and Susitha Sudam.
