Distilleries Company of Sri Lanka PLC had its annual cricket tournament for the third consecutive year on 12 July, at Shalika Grounds, Naranhenpita.
Events of such nature are organised to encourage staff participation and also create a platform for staff members to showcase their sportsmanship.
The tournament started off as a six a side tournament and this year for the first time the tournament was held with the participation of 10 teams consisting of 11 members a side. It was held in two rounds and matches were played on league basis.
The teams that participated this year represented the head office, regions as well as subsidiary and associate companies of the Group. The defending champions Northern Warriors representing the northern region played a great game throughout the tournament to take the championship trophy home for the second consecutive time.
The two teams played under two groups in the 2nd round matches with the highest bonus points, Dakshina Shoorayo A team representing the Southern Region and the Colombo Riders B team representing the Head Office were qualified for the finals. Dakshina Shooraya A won toss and elected to field against the Colombo Riders B.

Sarath Mahesh representing Dakshina Shoorayo A was adjudged the Man of the match and Suresh Lakmal representing Dakshina Shoorayo A was the Man of the Tournament.
The Best Bowler was awarded to Rasika Karunarathne representing Colombo Riders B and Best Batsman was Asanka Iroshan representing Colombo Riders B.
The Cricket Championship 2014 was won by Dakshina Shoorayo A representing the southern region.
