Debutants JAT Holdings, VS Information make memorable start at MCA “G” division 25 Over League Tour

The 07th Stafford Motor & Co. (Pvt) Ltd., sponsored “Honda” Trophy/MCA “G” division 25 Over League Tournament 2017 got off to a start last weekend. 

Debutants, JAT Holdings and VS Information made memorable entrances in to MCA cricket, scoring historic wins over their opponents, Avian Technologies and another debutant BPO Connect, respectively. 

The opening weekend’s batting honours went to the two centurions – Tharindu Siriwardena from Maliban Biscuits (133 in 60 balls, inclusive of 05 sixes and 17 fours Vs. Group M Media) and Vihagan Ariyaratne from Glaxo SmithKline (110 in 68 balls, inclusive of 03 sixes and 16 fours).

The bowling honours was bagged by Dimo’s leg spinner Wageesha Balagama (5 – 22 – 5 Vs. Kalani Cables.)

Maliban Biscuits made the highest team total – 287 for 6 in 25 Overs Vs. Group M Media, riding on the 132 runs stand for the 2nd wicket in 82 balls between centurion, Tharindu Siriwardena and Nethminda Perera (48). 

Worth mentioning is the 120 runs stand for the 02nd wicket in 109 balls between centurion, Vihagan Ariyaratne and Thisara Sethunga (45) for Glaxo SmithKline Vs. Coats Thread Lanka and the 105 runs stand for the 2nd wicket in 68 balls between Chandima Sampath (67) and Tharindu de Silva (57) for A Baur & Co. Vs. DPMC “B”.

The lowest team total came from Tea & Herbs Co., who shot out for 55 runs in 17.1 overs Vs. ACL Cables.

Thurstan/afternoon: Wurth Lanka beat Union Assurance PLC by 06 runs on the D&L method; WL - 132/8 (25) & UAL - 84/4 in 18.2 overs when bad light halted play. 

Moratuwa/morning: A. Baur & Co. beat DPMC “B” by 117 runs on the D&L method; Baur’s – 246/7 (25) & DPMC “B” – given a revised target of 229 runs in 23 overs, due to rain stoppage – 112/9 (23).

Moratuwa/afternoon: Fair First Insurance beat CIC Holdings by 16 runs on the D&L method; FFI – 174/6 (20) and CIC given a revised target of 185 in 20 overs – 80/3 in 11 overs when bad light halted play. 

Kotahena/morning: JAT Holdings beat Avian Technologies by 07 wickets; AT – 89 (22.1) & JAT – 90/3 (12.1)

Kotahena/afternoon: HNB “B” beat Waters Edge by 07 wickets; WE - 118 (20.5) and HNB “B” - 120/3 (11.1)

Veyangoda/morning: Courtaulds Clothing beat HNB Assurance by 03 wickets; HNB “A” - 162/7 (25) and Courtaulds - 165/7 (22.3)

Veyangoda/afternoon: Coca Cola Beverages beat Cargills Bank by 02 wickets; Cargills – 199/9 (25) and Coca Cola - 200/8 (24.3)

Moratuwa/afternoon: VS Information beat BPO Connect by 05 wickets on the D&L method (match reduced to 18 overs a side due to rain); BPOC - 125/7 (18) and VSI given a revised target of 140 runs in 18 overs - 141/5 (15.5)

The tournament will be continued this weekend, 20 and 21 May with a card of 24 matches.
