DFCC Group emerge as Mercantile Tennis Tournament Champions

DFCC Group renowned for their professionalism in banking reigned at the 2013 Mercantile Tennis Tournament claiming the overall championship. The runners up in 2012, the DFCC Group were virtually unstoppable with their dominance clearly seen by the 63 point lead they gained over the runners-up this year, Dialog. It is also significant to note that this is the eighth year running that a bank has won the trophy, with the DFCC Group dethroning HSBC, the 7 times reigning champs. The tournament saw over 27 companies competing this year. DFCC’s title onslaught was led by CEO of DFCC Bank and National tennis icon Arjun Fernando who emerged as the Men’s Over 45 Singles Winner scoring 29.5 points overall making him the highest scorer of the tournament. Nihal Fonseka, former CEO was adjudged as the Runners up of the Men’s Over 45 and Over 55 Singles. Teaming up in the Men’s Over 45 Doubles Arjun Fernando and Nihal Fonseka emerged as the runners up.  Arjun Fernando also went on to win the Men’s Open Doubles partnering with Guyanga Weerasekera from Coca-Cola Beverages Sri Lanka Ltd. In the Men’s Over 55 Doubles category Nihal Fonseka partnered Asoka Abeyewardene, to grab the Runners up title. Nimarla Fernando was the second highest scorer for DFCC with 20 points with her pair of runner up performances in the Women’s Singles and Open Doubles where she partnered Manouri Liyanage. Neil de Rose was placed as the third highest scorer for DFCC with 11.5 points. The DFCC Group Tennis team was represented for the 2013 Mercantile tournament by Arjun Fernando, Nihal Fonseka, Asoka Abeyewardene, Nimarla Fernando, Neil de Rose, Manouri Liyanage, Ravi Gunawardena, Sudeep Perera, Duminda Silva, Asanga Goonatilaka, Niroshana Chaminda, Nishani de Soyza, Sanjeewa Munasinghe, Tharindu Perera, Tharindu Paranathanthri and Ruvini Premachandra.
