Dharmarajah clinches Singer Rugby Sevens title

Dharmarajah College Kandy beat the fancied Kingswood College 19 points (two goals one try) to 17 (one goal two tries) in a nail biting match played at the Royal College Sports Complex on 4 March in front of a packed house.



It was nice to see both teams – who locked horns in the finals – were from the hill capital and beat all Colombo teams to vie for the finals. At lemons, both teams were leveled 12 points each, after the turnaround the Rajans scored a try B. Udangamuwa which gave them a seven point lead. The other try scorers for Rajans were Thanuka Wickramanayaka and T.E. Wijesingha, while for Kingswood the try scorers were U.W Ariyaratna two tries and D.M. Wijesingha one try.

More than 280 participants from 24 leading schools in the island took part which was sponsored by Singer Sri Lanka PLC and organised by the Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Foot Ball Association SLSRFA.

The chief guest was M.H.M. Fairoz Marketing Manager—Electronics Singe Sri Lanka PLC.

The plate was won by Science College who beat Vidyartha College 22 points to five. BOWI was won by Royal college Colombo who beat Lumbini College 19 points to nil while the SHIELD was won by Ananda College Colombo who beat Zahira College Colombo 19 points to five.
