The popular Dialog Sri Lanka Cricket Awards 2014 was announced at a media conference recently.
Welcoming guests to the launch of the Dialog Sri Lanka Cricket Awards 2014, Secretary of Sri Lanka Cricket Nishantha Ranatunga said: “We are gathered here to launch the annual cricket awards which recognises and honours the nation’s cricketers both men and women, once again, who have been identified as our stars – icons of the game and whose names have entered into our cricketing records. We are also happy to recognise our young and aspiring club players.”
Ranatunga added: “Around 65 cricketing heroes will proudly carry away their awards and the recipients are feted in recognition of their exceptional performances in all forms of the game during the cricketing season 2013/2014 in the country’s domestic and international, male and female cricket performances.”
Two of the highlights of the presentations will be the announcement of the Dialog Cricketer of the Year award and the Dialog People’s Player of the Year award, chosen by cricket fans via SMS voting and social media.
Awards in both men’s and women’s categories for performances at the international level this year will recognise the Best Batting and Bowling performances in Tests and One Day Internationals, the Best All Round performances in ODI’s, the Emerging Cricketer of the year and Leading Umpires in each panel.
The awards for performances at the local level will go to club cricketers from the Under 23 and Women’s divisions and performances at the Premier League and Premier League Limited Over Tournaments, Sara League and Donovan Andree tournaments, as well as the Club T20 tournament.
“We truly appreciate Dialog our partner’s support in sponsoring this prestigious event on the annual cricket calendar for the second consecutive year,” said Ranatunga.
