Dilan Seneviratne went on to grab victory in the inaugural Speed Championship 2012 at Pannala, thereby extending his winning streak from 2011. Held on February 12th, the win at Pannala puts Seneviratne firmly ahead in the SL-H 1600 Championship Points Table.
Seneviratne dominated the weekend from the outset as he qualified a clear second plus ahead of last year’s champion Ashan Silva. During race day, Seneviratne was on a league of his own by pulling away from the rest of the pack quickly. Silva, who was in 2nd place, was forced to slow down due to a tire failure.
Pasindu Pieris, who struggled during qualifying due to tire issues had better fortune on race day as he fought his way up from 7th on the grid to finish 2nd place in the podium. The crowd of racing enthusiasts also witnessed a great tussle between Pieris and his Ezy Racing team-mate Sajaad Zuhair. Zuhair also unfortunately suffered tire failure during the race and was forced to retire. Dinesh Jayawardana, who started 5th on the grid, went on to grab third place on the podium.
It was also a great weekend for Tuned-i-Chips as it saw many drivers make it to the podium whose cars were tuned by Zakie Ismail. But the prize for Tuned-i-Chips was their flagship car driven by Seneviratne himself who comfortably grabbed yet another win.
