Djokovic and Federer arrive in Delhi for the IPTL

Reuters: World number one Novak Djokovic of Serbia and Swiss superstar Roger Federer arrived in Delhi, India on Sunday (7) for the third leg of the inaugural International Premier Tennis League (IPTL). Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic   The IPTL brings current men’s and women’s stars along with tennis legends together at one platform. It is the first city-based professional league in the world, played across four countries to fulfil the increasing demand for top-level tennis in Asia. The tournament kicked off in Manila, Philippines on 28 November before moving on to Singapore. After the three-day event in Delhi, the league concludes in Dubai on 11 December. The Delhi-based Indian Aces team includes Federer, Ana Ivanovic of Serbia, India’s Sania Mirza, Pete Sampras of the United States, Frenchman Gael Monfils, Rohan Bopanna of India and Fabrice Santoro of France. Big crowds are expected to come out on Monday (8) when Federer plays against Djokovic who is part of the UAE Royals team. The event is based on the lines of the glitz and glamour of the India-based Cricket League, with innovations such as no lets, no deuces and powerplay points. The Indian Aces currently lead the standings by three points from the UAE Royals. The Manila Mavericks are third, two points further back with the Singapore Slammers fourth, four points further back. The winning team of the IPTL will earn $ 1 million.
