Rio Sports Club open tournament with eight wicket win

Rio Sports Club Ambalangoda, playing their first game in the Donovan Andre Cricket tournament, coasted to an eight wicket win against Old Servatians’ CA&FC at Rathgama last Sunday (12).
Electing to bat first, the Old Servatians’ were unable to cope with the pace of Tharanga Ramanayake and the spin of Damith Harshana and were tottering at 85 for 5 but skipper Lochana Mohotti’s 60 off 86 balls which included seven boundaries and a six, and Kavindu Umesh (38 not out) put on 84 runs for the sixth wicket. The Old Servatian’s were all out for
173 runs in their first innings losing the last five wickets within the space of four runs. Right arm off spinner Damith Harshana captured six wickets.
Rio SC were bowled out for 254 runs in their first essay with Chathuranga Dewapriya (47), Dinusha de Silva (44) and Chinthana Bowala (38) making useful contributions. Left arm leg spinner Chanuka Dilshan was rewarded with a six wicket haul. Ramesh Nimantha captured three wickets.
Tharanga Ramanayake (3 for 73) and Damith Harshana (3 for 13) restricted the Old Servatians’ second innings to 137 runs. Saviru Dhananjaya topped the score card with 40 runs. Lochana Mohotti contributed with a quick fire 30 off 16 balls (4x4 and 6x2). Rio SC scored the 57 runs required for the loss of two wickets in 9.2 overs.
