Easy win for New Zealand against SL in high-scoring match

  • Overtakes SL’s 356 for 8 in just 46 overs with loss of four wickets

 New Zealand beat Sri Lanka convincingly in the warm-up match ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy.

Put into bat, Sri Lanka scored 356 for the loss of eight wickets in its 50 overs and in reply New Zealand scored 359 for 4 in 46.1 overs.

Captain for the match Upul Tharanga scored 110 off 104 balls in an innings studded with three 6s and 13 fours.  Kusal Mendis and Dinesh Chandimal scored welcome half-centuries of 57 (off 50 balls) and 55 respectively but failed to progress to a higher score. 

Kusal Perera scored 38 off 28 balls to bolster Sri Lanka’s score.

In reply, New Zealand’s Martin Guptill whacked 116 off just 76 balls in an innings that included five 6s and 10 fours. He retired out whilst Captain Kane Williamson scored 88 off 60 balls with four 6s and 7 fours before retiring his innings. 

Chris Anderson scored a quick 50 off 36 balls and remained unbeaten.

The most successful of the Lankan bowlers was Seekuge Prasanna who took two wickets for 63 runs.03
