Citizens Development Business, Toll Global Express, Mercantile Investments Ltd., John Keells Group “C”, Lankem Ceylon, Unilever Sri Lanka, Regnis Lanka and UB Finance advanced to the quarterfinals of the 14th David Pieris Group of Companies sponsored “DPGC” Challenge Trophy, MCA “E” Division , 30-over League Tournament 2016.
In the pre quarterfinals worked off last weekend, CDB crushed Commercial Bank “B” by nine wickets; Toll Global cruised to a comfortable 81 run win over Softlogic Finance; Mercantile Investments scored a hard fought four wicket win over Dialog Axiata “B”; John Keells “C” scored an upset seven wicket win over Brandix Essentials; Lankem Ceylon comfortably beat Nawaloka Group by 56 runs; Unilever scored a heart stopping one wicket win over AIA Insurance; ; Regnis Lanka scored a convincing 48 run win over Astron Lanka and UB Finance over came DFCC Bank by 37 runs.
A Valliant 65 runs stand for the ninth wicket between No. 8 batsman, Rasika Sanjeewa (58 not out in 38 balls, inclusive of four sixes and six fours) and No. 10 batsman, Dilanga Wickramasinghe (15) spoilt the chances for AIA Insurance , as Unilever ran away with a one wicket win with five deliveries to spare.
Intelligent bowling by Ravi Subasinghe (4 for 27) and a well compiled 72 not out in 74 balls inclusive of a six and eight fours by Charith Hendevitharana who steered John Keells “C” to a fine seven wicket win over group winners, Brandix Essentials.
Pathum Madusanka (85 in 71 balls, inclusive of two sixes and 10 fours) and Nipuna Gamage (5 for 32) played vital roles for UB Finance in their 37 runs win over DFCC Bank.
