Elephant House sponsors South Asian football tournament

Sri Lankan consumer favourite Elephant House recently signed on as the beverage, food and ice cream sponsor for the six-nation South Asian football tournament, which will be taking place between 1-10 December 2012, at the Jayathilaka Stadium in Nawalapitiya. Hosted by Sri Lanka this year, this contest is being organised by the country’s Ministry of Sports.

Fighting it out amongst top-notch national teams, from Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, the winner of this From left: Sports Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage and FFSL President Rear Admiral Sarath Weerasekera, receiving Elephant House’s sponsorship from Ceylon Cold Stores (Elephant House) Head of Beverages Chandima Pereracompetition will be awarded the ‘Mahinda Rajapaksa Trophy’ as well as bragging rights as the best team in South Asia.

The sponsorship was recently finalised at an event organised by the country’s Ministry of Sports, in which Sri Lanka’s Sports Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage, and Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL) President Rear Admiral Sarath Weerasekera, received Elephant House’s sponsorship from Ceylon Cold Stores (Elephant House) Head of Beverages Chandima Perera.

Commenting on the occasion, Perera said, “Football is the world’s most popular sport, and Sri Lankans must not be deprived from taking part in it, either as players or spectators. This sponsorship is Elephant House’s contribution to keeping this sport alive and present in Sri Lanka, so that every kid receives an opportunity to dream, join and maybe one day shine, possibly even on the world football stage.”
