This year’s series is set to take place across three legs; the first already unfolded in China from 5-6 Septemberfollowed by the second leg in Thailand from 26-27September before culminating in a thrilling showpiecein Colombo from 10-11Octoberat the Race Course international grounds.

In addition to its sponsorship of the Asia 7’s Series, Entrust has been consistently engaged in Sri Lanka’s sporting area having served as the driving force behind the Sri Lanka Police Rugby team, the Ragama Cricket Club (Ragama CC) and more recently through its sponsorship of Isipathana College Rugby, the first and largest sponsorship of its kind ever for the school which has produced numerous national-level players. 

Meanwhile at the national level, Sri Lanka has been making waves in previous formats of the Asia Rugby 7’s Series as a result of its stoic and determined performances against some of the best teams in the Asian region such as Japan, Hong Kong, and South Korea. 

This year’s tournament is also notable for the fact that the Sri Lankan national 7’s team will be coached by England 7’s star of South African origin, Matt Turner. Selected for England’s rugby side in the 2009/10 IRB Sevens, Turner went on to score 92 tries by 2013.

Turner’s valuable experience both on and off the field is anticipated to significantly boost Sri Lanka’s chances going in to the Asia 7’s series. Backed by the support of Sri Lanka’s ever-enthusiastic support base, the team stands a strong chance of challenging the top tier teams.
