Karachi: Former Pakistan players have hailed the performance of outgoing coach Waqar Younis following the successful conclusion of the Zimbabwe tour.

Former team manager Intikhab Alam, who also heads the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) committee formed to find Waqar’s replacement, termed his tenure as a successful one.

“He did a good job. It’s a demanding job and Waqar handled it well. The team started showing progress and his exit will affect continuity,” Alam stated.

Former chief selector Abdul Qadir hoped that Waqar could serve Pakistan cricket in the future.

“I know Waqar as a sincere and hard working person. He has given huge services to Pakistan as a cricketer and coach,” Qadir said.

Waqar, who took over as head coach in March 2010, announced last month that he would step down after the Zimbabwe tour due to personal and health reasons.

The PCB is reportedly considering the names of Moin Khan, Aaqib Javed and Sabih Azhar to succeed the outgoing head coach.
