Sajaad gives triple wins for EZY Racing at Foxhill
EZY Racing’s Sajaad Zuhair achieved a rare feat for any motor racing driver in Sri Lanka, when he went on to win all three events he took part in and provide EZY Racing with the team winner trophy at the Foxhill Super Cross, in the Diyathalawa Army Camp, entertaining close to 50,000 spectators who had gathered there.
The team were given a very strong weekend by their drivers Sajaad Zuhair, Dilan Seneviratne and Rizvi Farouk as they went to bag five podiums.
Zuhair who won the SLH 1600 event in 2013, went on to secure pole position in Zs the SLH 1600 event and the SLS 1500 event to finish off a strong qualifying round. Zuhair to date has had an outstanding start to the 2014 racing calendar by securing pole positions in every race that he has participated in both In the SLH 1600 and SLS 1500 event.
Seneviratne who drives the EZY Evolution ER 10 in the SLGT up to 3500 CC event, qualified 8th after being held up during the qualifying run by a slower competitor. Rizvi Farouk who is one of the two drivers to have participated in every Foxhill Super Cross to date, qualified 9th in a hotly contested event where the top nine competitors were all within a second of the pole setter, Dinesh Deheragoda.
The Black and Red team were given the ideal start by Zuhair who successfully transformed his pole position to an easy victory over Janaka Dias who finished 2nd and Upulwan Serasinghe who finished 3rd in the SLH 1600 Race 1. Zuhair who had shown tremendous pace in this event while driving brilliantly in 2014, went onto get the 2nd consecutive chequered flag for this year in the SLH 1600 event.
The team was given a further boost when both Seneviratne and Farouk went on to finish with podium positions in their respective SLGT upto 3500CC events. In the SLH 1600, Race 2, Zuhair was able to yet again hold off competition from Dias to win the event to make it a memorable double victory in the SLH 1600 event.
“It was a memorable weekend for us. We came into the weekend knowing we had a strong chance of taking home a victory. Having held the pole position in the two previous races this year, I was confident that we could yet again be in the front row of the grid at Foxhill. However the pole position gave me the necessary confidence for Saturday’s race as it gave me the opportunity to have occupied the pole position in all three races EZY Racing has run in 2014,” said an elated Zuhair.
Zuhair further went on to state that the double win with maximum points was important as the team winning trophy was an important one for the team. Therefore during the 2nd race he had to focus on not being over aggressive as he wanted to bring home the points for the team.
EZY Racing who are currently on their 4th year of Motor Racing have grown in stature to become the country’s leading brand in motor racing with separate driving teams for circuit racing and rally racing.
Speaking on his team’s performance, Initiator/ CEO of EZY Racing, Shafraz Hamzadeen said: “It gives a great sense of satisfaction to know that Sajaad (Zuhair) has been able to conquer Foxhill, a race track on which he performs so well and which suits his style of driving.”
Hamzadeen further stated that in the SLGT class the ER 10 driven by Seneviratne is currently performing to its current capability.
“SLGT is a whole different game. The machines are mean and powerful. Keeping them consistently in front is a tough task. You can have one good race and another mediocre race. The ER 10 after having taken quite a tough toll in last year’s Foxhill has some continuous development work that we have been doing. The car development has come a long way. Currently the car is at around 80%. We are about a second away from the runners in qualifying and we plan on working on the car for Dilan to be able to compete at the front towards the end of the season. Taking this into consideration, Dilan is doing a fantastic job in running the car to its maximum capacity. Hopefully we will see him amongst the top three very soon.”
The Black and Red Team’s circuit racing team, who will be participating in the race circuits around the country, will next be seen at the Cavalry Supercross in Kurunegala.
