Excitement galore today and tomorrow at event organised by the Ceylon Motor Sports Club (CMSC) and the Negombo Motor Sports Club (NMSC) Once again another first could be witnessed, as EZY Racing, Sri Lanka’s premier racing team, joins hands with ‘Kartland’ and the Ceylon Motor Sports Club, as well as the Negombo Motor Sports Club, to bring to Go Kart Racing lovers, an exciting day of racing at Mirigama. The Ceylon Motor Sports Club, having organised a Go Karting Championship in 2013, now organises a teaser event, at the latest venue for Karting, the Kanway Motor Racing Track at Mirigama. Kanway boasts of a track length of over 1 km of track distance per lap and also has the required width to witness wheel to wheel racing. The main characteristic of this circuit being that due to the straights being long, the organisers will use chicanes to reduce the length of the straights. The track also has different elevations and cambers, with multiple racing lines into corners, which will make racing closer and also see more overtaking maneuvers on track. EZY Racing have identified the requirement to promote grass root level motor racing and with this in mind have joined hands with the Ceylon Motor Sports Club, to bring home a series to promotions and events which competitors will hear of in the future. EZY Racing having just partnered in Pakistan with the famous ‘Interactive’ Group, find this exercise in line with their long term goal, which is to promote Karting and search for fresh talent in Sri Lanka. Go Karting is considered as the stepping stone into Motor Racing, and this has been the initial step taken by many local and international racing drivers. As kids from the ages of 13 and above can compete in a very safe environment, many parents too end up as competitors, bringing out the family bond in racing. Similar to the 2013 Karting Championship organised by the CMSC, this year too will see the same classes being worked out, with different weights for different classes, thereby making racing very competitive. Equating the competitors’ weights by adding weights to the karts will bring them to a minimum weight for everyone. Novice Karting 1 - Ages between 13-17 (minimum weight of driver 45kg) Novice Karting 2 - Ages between 17-30 (minimum weight of driver 65kg) Novice Karting 3 - Ages over 30 (minimum weight of driver 75kg) Intermediate Karting 1 - Ages between 13-17 (minimum weight of driver 45kg) Intermediate Karting 2 - Ages between 17-30 (minimum weight of driver 65kg) Intermediate Karting 3 - Ages over 30 (minimum weight of driver 75kg) Ladies Open (minimum weight of driver 55kg) The organisers of this meet wish to conduct the timing session on 21st, Saturday morning while the competitive racing will take place on Sunday 22 June 2014.
