Favourites lead on Day 1 at Sri Lanka Junior Open Golf Championship 2014

Day One of the three-round Sri Lanka Junior Open Golf Championship 2014 got underway yesterday with the favourites leading the field at the Royal Colombo Golf Club.
Lamindu Rainaka carded an 81 followed closely by Hiruna Sigera on 82, Buddika Jayalath 84, Prashan Lakshitha 85, Armand Flamer-Caldera and Praveen Raj on 89 who made up the top 5 juniors vying for the main Gold Division title for players 17 years and younger.
In the Silver Division for players between 11-14 years, the top three contenders completed rounds of 81 – Sathsara Dilshan, 83 – Taniya Mine, and 83 - Vinod Weerasinghe.
In the Bronze Division for players 10 years and under for two rounds of nine holes each to be played over two days, Nigel Fernando on 40 strokes has a slender one stroke lead over Levon Niyarapola on 41 with K. Danushan 45, Tienn Kapilasena 46 and Tanish Samarawickrama 49 being the possible challengers for the Bronze title.
Playing conditions at the Royal Colombo Golf Club were tough due to persistent rain, making the course play long.
