Daily Mail: England Captain Charlotte Edwards has called on cricket’s governing bodies to maintain their funding of the women’s game in order to continue the global progress on show at the World Cup in India.
Edwards’ defending champions face South Africa in Cuttack this morning in a game they need to win, while also needing other results to go their way to stand a chance of progressing from the Super Six stage, following Friday’s two-run defeat to Australia.
England’s women are supported by the England Cricket Board’s ‘chance to shine’ program and Edwards believes more funding will result in better standards.
“More teams are now competing,” she said.
“The support that the Sri Lanka and Pakistan boards have put in, you can see the difference it’s made.
“Maybe the world game’s not quite as strong as we would like across the board, so it’s important that the boards are supporting their women’s programs.”
