GARMIN helps team Sri Lanka blaze Atacama trail

untitled-1Team Sri Lanka comprising retired Army Major Ruvan Ranatunga of Adventure Seals and Shihan John of MAS Holdings managed to secure 71st and 72nd position after completing a grueling stage 1 trail on Sunday 2 October by clocking 7 hours 8 minutes and 11 seconds (72nd position time). 

Atacama Desert, considered the driest desert in the world is located in the shadow of South American’s greatest mountain range, the Andes in northern Chile. Stage one comprised of Rocky hill, dry canyons, and wide open desert then up a long Inca road in a canyon with elevations reaching 2,600 m / 8,600 feet and temperatures set to rise to 40 Celsius at day time.

With the help of Garmin wearable GPS smart watches, Lions were able to stay the course and reach the stage finish line safely as a team.
