In the group final round matches SPC beat much famed teams – Joseph Vaz, Wennappuwa (2-0), Hewavitharana College, Rajagiriya who were one of the favourites to win this year (4-3 through penalty shootouts) and Zahira Gampola (1-0). They even beat, Zahira Colombo in the preliminary matches (1-0).
This is a significant achievement for SPC, for having bagged both the Under 17 and Under 19 Runner-up trophies in their respective tournaments.
These accomplishments have roused a keen interest amongst the juniors in College where young boys in the age group of 8-10 where seen practicing this wonderful sport and posing for a photograph thereafter. The passion shown towards this sport will no doubt pave the way for a greater future for SPC football.
