GSK bags seven awards at PPA Sports Festival

GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), the leading pharmaceutical and consumer healthcare company in Sri Lanka, dominated the recently conducted Pharma Promoters Association (PPA) Outdoor Sports Festival, winning seven awards. GSK emerged Runner-up in cricket with members of its team winning awards for best fielder, best batsman and the highest number of sixes hit during the tournament. The company was also champion in tug-o-war and fielded the fastest female runner and fastest male runner at the tournament. This is the third consecutive year that GSK won the tug-o-war championship. Similarly, GSK’s Shalini Abeyratne was clocked the fastest female runner for the third year in a row. The fastest male runner was W. Krishantha of GSK. In addition to the seven awards won at the event, GSK won the award for the ‘best decorated tent.’ “This was another memorable day for us, with our staff demonstrating their sporting prowess,” said Nandani Amarawansha, Senior HR Manager at GSK Pharmaceuticals. “GSK encourages versatility among staff at all levels and our performance at the PPA sports festival highlighted the calibre of our human resources.” One of the world’s leading research-based pharmaceutical and healthcare companies, GSK and its predecessors have been doing business in Sri Lanka since the late 1930s. Globally, 1,100 prescriptions are written for GSK products every minute. GSK is the only pharmaceuticals company to tackle in the three ‘priority diseases’ identified by the World health Organization (WHO): HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria.
