The innovative insurance solutions provider HNB Assurance is the proud sponsor of the Sri Lanka national women’s 7’s rugby team. They will be competing at the Asian series first leg Thailand 7’s on 20th &21st September 2013 in Bangsaen, Thailand. This is the first time that HNB Assurance joined hands with the Sri Lankan National Women’s Rugby union as the official travel partner for the tournament.
The national rugby selectors have selected the squad consisting of 12 players and five standby players to represent Sri Lanka at the above tournament. Centre three quarter Thanuja Weerakkody of Sri Lanka Navy Sports Club will captain the Sri Lanka women’s sevens rugby team for the Asian Rugby Football Union seven-a-side.
The final 12 member squad was named recently following a series of trials conducted under the supervision of Head Coach Chandrishan Perera and Assistant Coach K.P. Naranthota at Havelock Park. Commenting on this union, HNB Assurance Managing Director Manjula de Silva stated: “It is an honour for HNB Assurance to join hands with the Sri Lankan Rugby Union as the official travel partner and to uplift the spirit of rugby by supporting the women’s rugby sevens team. I can see a strong committed team of players with high team spirit and we wish the entire team the best of luck for the tournament and may they bring the winning trophy home”
