HNB, LB Finance, NTB champions at Sri Lankasports.com Netball Challenge

Hatton National Bank, LB Finance and Nations Trust bank emerge winners of the Sri Lankasports.com Netball Challenge 2014. Hatton National Bank clinched the Division One title while LB Finance took away the Division Two title. Nations Trust Bank carried away the mixed division title. In the grand finals of the Division One category Hatton National Bank beat Nations Trust Bank by 22-6goals and in the Division Two finals LB Finance beat Citizens Development Business Finance by 8-6 goals. The final of the mixed category was held between Nations Trust Bank and Dialog Axiata the later took the game by 7-6 goals. Third and Fourth places of the Division One won by HSBC and Ceylon Biscuits respectively. Brandix and Amaya Lake won the Third and Fourth places of Division Two respectively. 29 teams representing prestigious institutions in Sri Lanka vied for the honours at the Sri Lankasports.com Netball Challenge 2014 which concluded on 26 April at the Indoor Stadium at St. Joseph’s College, Colombo 10. Sri Lanka’s First Sports Website – www.srilankasports.com organised this event while the technical assistance will receive from the Academy of Netball – Kotte. The event as conducted in two divisions and also with a mixed category creating more opportunities for teams to perform at top level. 10 teams competed in Division one while 11 teams battled out in Division two. Eight teams took part in the Mixed Division category. Hatton National Bank, Seylan Bank, Commercial Bank, Pan Asia Bank, HSBC, Nations Trust Bank, Ceylon Biscuits Ltd, Asiri Hospitals Group, David Peiris Motor Company Limited, and People’s Bank competed in four groups in Division one. Hayleys Group, Aitkan Spence, LB Finance, Brandix, MAS Unichella, Citizen’s Development Business Finance PLC, Expo Lanka Holdings Ltd, National Development Bank, Dialog Axiata, Commercial Credit & Finance PLC, Amaya Lake  were seen in action in four groups in Division twoI. David Peiris Motor Company Limited, Nations Trust Bank, Citizen’s Development Business Finance PLC, national Development Bank, Hayley’s Group, DFCC Bank, Dialog Asiata and LB Finance battled in the mixed category event. Sri Lankasports.com has a successful history of organising special sporting events of this nature and all those events happened to be the first of its kind in Sri Lanka. Sri Lankasports.com inaugurated an Inter Company Netball Tournament in 2006 and conducted for four consecutive years with the participation of top companied in the corporate sector. It was conducted in a specially designed format similar to seven a side rugby and also introduced the concept of ‘Power Play’ to the game of netball in Sri Lanka.
