HNB Women score 2nd win at 26th MSBA “A” division League Basketball Tournament

HNB Women scored their 2nd successive win in the 26th MSBA “A” division League Basketball Tournament 2016 with a convincing 60/46 win over Seylan Bank, after leading 24/15 at half time at the Henry Pedris Courts.

Top scorers: Kumarinie Silva (20) and Anjalee Ekanayake (10) for HNB; D. Wijesiriwardena (15) and Jayaliya Kumari (08) for Seylan. 

In a “B” division women’s match, NDB Bank trounced John Keells Group, 50/22, after leading 28/15 at half time, at the Otter AC Courts. 

Top scorers: Natasha Perera (22) and Hashini Ariyaratne (12) for NDB; Binoli Barsanbach (10) for JK. 

In a men’s “B” division match at Henry Pedris Court, MAS Holdings “Reds” scored a comfortable 59/41 win over Dialog Axiata after leading 26/18 at half time. 

Top scorers: A. Alphonsus (25) and V. Sundaralingam (18) for the winners; S. Kapil Dev (10) for the losers. 

Men’s “C” division at Otters:

Kanrich Finance scored a convincing 69/58 win over LB Finance, after leading 36/22 at half time.

Top scorers: K.V. Wijesinghe (20), N. Rajapaksa (13) and T.C.M. Perera (12) for the winners; G. Sarinda (31) and S. Fernando (13) for the losers. 

NDB Bank proved too strong for HSBC, as they scored a huge 64/37 win over them, after leading 39/14 at the breather.

Top scorers: M. Fawshan (25) and Jude Perera (17) for the winners; Madushanka Ratnayake (10) for the losers. 

Men’s “D” division at Henry Padris 

MAS Holdings “Blacks” fighting every inch of the way, beat Nations Trust Bank 54/52, after leading 26/23 at lemons.

H. Fernando (15) and H. Kavisha played a hard game for the winners whilst P. Jayaratne (12) and P. Weerasinghe (13) played their hearts out for the losers

Newcomer Union Bank scored a well-deserved 72/44 win over Softlogic Group, after leading 38/24 at the breather. 

UB’s top shooters were C. Shenal (25), S. Perera (15) and D. Wijendra (10); L. Kulatunga (16) played well for Softlogic.

The tournament was continued at the same venues on Friday 26 August.
