Dinuka Karunarathne, an employee of Hatton National Bank (HNB)PLC, represented Sri Lanka at the Yonex-Sunrise Sri Lanka International Challenge 2014 and bagged the bronze medal in the men’s singles category, the only Sri Lankan to win a medal.
This was a notable achievement, being a World Ranking tournament organised by BWF (the world governing body for badminton) and saw the participation of over 260 players from 14 countries. Amidst stiff competition from more experienced players from around the world, Dinuka ended as the most successful among the 60 players who represented Sri Lanka.
Commenting on this achievement Lasantha Fernando DGM – Recovery and HNB Sports Club President, stated: “We at HNB extend our heartiest congratulations to Dinuka for this outstanding performance. He has been a part of the HNB family and this achievement fills us with pride and joy. HNB has constantly supported him to pursue his sporting ambitions because we saw the potential and talent in him. Therefore it is indeed heartening to see him realise his true potential and we wish him the very best in achieving greatness and bringing glory to Sri Lanka in the future.”
Dinuka Karunarathne joined HNB in 2008 as a trainee and has been with the bank for over six years. He is currently attached to the Personal Financial Services Division.
