HSBC sponsors CBB sports triangular

The Council for Business with Britain (CBB) held its annual sports triangular (cricket, netball and badminton) recently at SSC grounds Colombo.

British High Commissioner John Rankin joined the fun filled atmosphere and show cased his cricketing ability on the field with much enthusiasm.

With 50 cricket teams, 10 badminton and eight netball teams, the CBB sports triangular proved to be an exciting event for all participants. MAS Slimline A emerged champions in the cricket tournament beating Linea Intimo by 28 runs whilst Commercial Bank emerged champs in Netball beating Quantum Clothing.

The Badminton Championship trophy was awarded to HSBC who beat Hayleys in the finals.

The CBB-ELT project is supported by the British Council, in association with the National Institute of Education, the Ministry of Education and the University of Cambridge. It is aimed at building the capacity of local English teachers by reaching out to rural areas in Sri Lanka and Funds collected from the CBB sports triangular, will be donated to the English Language Teacher Training Project (CBB-ELT).

The Council for Business with Britain (CBB) was formed in 2000 and exists to promote two-way trade between Sri Lanka and the UK and to maintain and foster a harmonious business relationship between Sri Lanka and the UK.

The CBB has a membership of 140 companies and is headed by a committee consisting of Sri Lankan and British nationals with the British High Commissioner in Sri Lanka as its Patron.

The CBB is affiliated to the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce.

The event which has grown over the last seven years saw an increasing number of Cricket and Netball teams participate this year, bringing together many top corporates from the business fraternity.
