Huawei, the leading global Information and Communications Technology (ICT) solutions provider and the fastest growing smartphone brand in Sri Lanka, came forth as the Gold Sponsor for the Sri Lanka Super Sevens Rugby Tournament this year.

The inaugural Dialog Axiata Sri Lanka Super Rugby Sevens tournament 2016 is organised by The Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union (SLRFU) and will kick off on 5-6 August at the Racecourse Grounds in Colombo with the second leg to be held on 12-13 August at the same venue.

Huawei Sri Lanka CEO Wang Shunli said: “As leading global ICT solutions provider and smart devices brand, Huawei actively provides sponsorships across the world. We help communities to believe in the power of a dream. We plan to support future sporting events in Sri Lanka in a spirit of collective success with all our partners, our distinct consumers and the sporting fraternity.”

Huawei Sri Lanka Country Head of Device Henry Liu commented: “As an innovative brand, we constantly challenge ourselves and help our consumers make their dreams possible. As a brand we believe that Dreams Inspire Creativity. We will continue to inspire, help our valued consumers and wherever we operate to dream and make the impossible possible. Rugby is a popular sport in Sri Lanka and our partnership with a premier sporting event such as the Sri Lanka Super Sevens Rugby Tournament would further strengthen the local sporting arena.”

Eight club teams will be in action where local players have been offered the opportunity to play with the world’s best players. The participation of top class international ruggerites from New Zealand, Australia, Fiji, Samoa, Tonga and England will also be adding excitement to the event this year. Each team will be entitled to field three foreign players. Along with the Club tournament, eight school teams will also participate in the tournament under the “Schools” category.
