He was one of the best sevens players produced by Kingswood College and later on went on to represent Kandy SC, Navy SC and Sri Lanka. He was an automatic choice for both the shorter version and longer version of the oval shaped ball game. He is none other than current Isipathana Head Coach, Nilfer Ibrahim.
The man with less words but more on producing results will end his most successful term with Isipathana College, a school contributed more national players than any other institution in the country though with less facilities and funds in their kitty.
‘Green Shirts,’ who always played rugby with the correct spirit, have a very good relationship with the majority of the schools plus backed by their hard working rugby committee who stick to their word did a lot of hard work for this year’s success supported by the Principal, school boys, old boys, well-wishers, teachers, and their sponsors.
Nilfer Ibrahim told Daily FT: “I am thankful for the support I got from the Principal, Prefect of Games, supporting staff, Havies Rugby Committee, Costa brothers, junior coaching staff, Walpola, Henry, trainer Dayan, Manager Dinesh Mudanayake and my family. Without all of their support, we wouldn’t have achieved the goal. The players had a great attitude, eager to learn and they always respect coaching staff plus a well-disciplined lot.”
Nilfer added: “I will be ending my three year contract with Pathana and will be moving on in life. I will take the future decision in due course. I hope I will be rewarded with national duty for the results shown with Isipathana for the sevens and fifteens tour which will take place shortly.”
