The Federation of Information Technology Sri Lanka (FITIS) recently announced the completion of arrangements to conduct Sri Lanka’s ICT Industry Softball Cricket Championship, an annual event, scheduled for 7 April 2013 at the CCC grounds. This event is being organised by the Hardware Chapter of the FITIS for the eighth consecutive year.

According to the organisers, this annual event is very popular among the ICT industry and over 100 teams representing various ICT companies have applied. Last year’s event drew over 3,000 visitors. This year’s event will prove to be a more glamorous one with the ICT Queen Contest, a magic show for kids and a DJ, providing greater enjoyment for the visitors and participants – another step taken to unite the industry and to motivate the employees as well as their loved ones. This event is open to all companies in the ICT industry engaged in hardware, software and training sectors and their families.

“Last year, 96 companies took part in this annual event, which is expected to turn over a new leaf with a considerable increase in participation in 2013. The purpose of this tournament is to develop and to reinforce inter relationship among the members and to provide some much needed entertainment through ICT queen contest, magic shows for kids, papare bands and a grand musical show, adding to the carnival atmosphere of the full-day event,” said Hardware Chapter and the Organising Committee Chairman Chinthaka Wijewickrama. He also invited members to be present at this fun-filled event on the FITIS calendar.

FITIS was established in 1996 with the purpose of giving a much needed focal point for the ICT industry in the island. During the past 16 years, it has successfully implemented many fruitful programs, which have been successfully carried out to enhance ICT usage and to create a continual growth in the employment opportunities available with the ICT sector.

FITIS membership is comprised of several chapters: Sri Lanka Association for the Software Industry (SLASI), Sri Lanka Computer Vendors’ Association (SLCVA), Association of Computer Training Organizations (ACTOS), Licensed Internet Service Providers Association (LISPA), and Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA).
