IIHS stages ‘Zero Sports Injuries’ international conference

Having understood the burning need for expertise and knowledge-sharing on the subject of sports injuries, the International Institute of Health Sciences (IIHS) has decided to organise an international health conference called ‘Zero Sports Injuries’ on 8 April, at the main auditorium of the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute, Colombo 07, from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.
Sharing the latest knowledge on the prevention of sports injuries to Sri Lankans is one of the key objectives of the proceedings.
The main resource person will be Dr. David Young, the famous Orthopaedic Surgeon and Honorary Surgeon for the Sri Lankan Cricket Team. He will be the keynote speaker at the conference.
Dr. Young, who is Australian by birth, has a lot of Sri Lanka in his heart. He has been travelling multiple times a year to Sri Lanka for over 17 years. In addition to treating Sri Lanka’s cricketers, Dr. Young also sees cricketers from the Australian national team at his private practice in Melbourne.
“For me, it’s always about the players and if the team does well, good luck to them but sport is about having everyone do well,” he said in a recent interview.
The distinguished panel also includes Prof. Arjuna P. De Silva, Dr. Nihal De Silva, Dr. K.U.R.A. Banagala, Dr. Aranjana L. Karunanayake, Dr. JanakiGooneratne, Dr. AshanAbeyewardena, Dr. Kithsiri Edirisinghe, Dr. Sumudu V. Rajasinghe and Mr. Thayumanvan .
Conference information
There will be a special workshop for school sports teams at the Sports Ministry grounds from 7.00 a.m. to 10.30 a.m. This workshop will focus on stretching, bandaging, first aid and sports nutrition.
Furthermore, a hands-on workshop for professionals is to be held on 9 April. This will be conducted at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute.

nFirst aid for sports injuries from 9.00 a.m. to 12.00 p.m. (WS-3)
nSports Nutrition from 1.00 p.m. to 5.00 p.m. (WS-4)
All Healthcare professionals, doctors, physiotherapists, nurses, coaches, gym Instructors, trainers and sports instructors, schoolchildren and parents are invited to the above programs.
Through the action taken by the International Institute of Health Sciences (IIHS), it is believed that Sri Lanka will be able to improve in the sports arena, while reducing the number of sports injuries that come with such success.
