Battling 200 members of the Royal Colombo Golf Club (RCGC) at the Royal Colombo Golf Course recently, the inaugural BBDO monthly medal golf tournament teed off at the historical 96 acre course. The tournament, which was organised by BBDO Lanka in association with the RCGC, was the first ever digitised golf tournament in the 130-year long history of the RCGC complete with online registration for ease of access, navigational maps and multimedia guides including training videos to sharpen one’s game and ‘The Red Ace’ mobile app to learn the secrets to playing on the Royal Colombo Golf Course.
The revolutionary all encompassing Red Ace app available for download free at www.bbdogolf.com upon registration, not only includes all the functions of the website but also functions as your personal golf trainer, with its GPS training facility which using GPS tracking guides you through the entire course with tips and tricks on how best to play each hole, allowing for even the novice player to play with confidence.
The Red Ace golfing application also makes for much easier tracking of one’s score, automatically tallying the total as you progress through your game. “I am delighted that BBDO Lanka is able to provide a revolutionary digital experience for golfers at the 130 year old RCGC. Players young and old participated with gusto and made full use of the digital experience,” BBDO Lanka MD Santosh Menon and also an avid golf player, said.
Captain of the Royal Colombo Golf Club Nimal Piyaratne concurred, stating: “The Red Ace app is a novel idea and many golfers were quite impressed with it.” Prashan Peiris emerged as the winner in the Division ‘A’ (Handicap 0-9) Nett and Gross categories, W.A.K. Fernando won the Division ‘B’ (Handicap 10-18) Nett and Gross categories while S.D. Wanigasekera and Tony Nadaraja were named the winners in the Division C (Handicap 19-28) Nett and Gross categories, respectively.
The Seniors, Nett division was won by Hema Dassanayake, the Seniors, Gross division by Won Hie Lee, the Masters, Nett category by Ajith Thudawe and the Masters, Gross by Nihal Boralessa. Vijitha Bandara emerged as the winner in the Sri Lanka Pool Players Gross division.
The Royal Colombo Golf Club, founded in 1879, is a sanctuary of green tranquillity hidden in the metropolis of Colombo. A former model farm, it offers both a scenic landscape as well as glimpses of rare species of flora and fauna. The second oldest Royal Golf Club outside the UK, it is the ideal environment to relax, unwind and tee off.
