The past hockey players of Trinity College, St. Peter’s College and St. Thomas’ College have rallied together to organise a seven-a-side hockey tournament between the three schools tomorrow, at St. Thomas’ College’s small club grounds in Mt. Lavinia from 8.30 a.m. onwards.

All three schools have played hockey for decades and have produced national players. The TPT Hockey Carnival is organised for the wellbeing of hockey as a sport and to maintain stronger ties between the three schools. Organisers plan to stage the competition as an annual event hosted by one of the sponsoring schools.

The tournament will see action in four age categorises, namely the 1st XI teams from all three schools in the 20 to 30, 30 to 40 and 40 and over age groups. It will be a very rare occasion where hockey players of the three schools who are over 40 will be participating in this hockey carnival. Trophies will be presented for each age category. The 20 to 30 trophy is being donated by Mario Joseph and Godwin Solomons, the 30 to 40 challenge shield is being donated by the Old Trinitians Sports Club and the over 40s challenge shield is being donated by Dr. Sarath de Alwis-Seneviratne. The special TPT Trophy is being donated by past hockey players of all three schools and will be presented to the 1st XI winning team along with certificates.

This year S. Thomas’ College, Mt. Lavinia will be hosting the event. This annual event will function as a reunion of past hockey players from the three schools and also an Old Boys get-together. As a CSR project, organisers are planning to sponsor three hockey players from each school in order to purchase hockey equipment. They have organised food and recreational stalls for families and children of the Old Boys to make it a fun-filled family event.
