Infiniti Red Bull Racing Show Car Run thrills crowds in Sri Lanka

A star racing driver, a championship winning F1 car and an insight into the world of Formula One; the Infiniti Red Bull Racing Show Car Run delivered on all these promises and threw in a little extra action as it reached an exhilarating climax on the final day of the Colombo Night Races, organised by the Carlton Motorsports club.
The 100,000 strong crowd that lined the streets of downtown Colombo were left in a whirl as the RB7 thundered past them, in the hands of Infiniti Red Bull Racing’s newest driver, Daniel Ricciardo.
Daniel took the car out four times for a spin around the streets of Colombo, eliciting loud and excited cheers each time he tore around the course and leaving a trail of deafening sound, burning rubber and smoke in his wake.
“The track was really good, in sections it was bumpy but the corners were great,” Daniel said about the event adding, “but what made it even more special was being the first team to have driven a Formula One car on the streets of Sri Lanka and to get such a great reaction from the crowd.”
There was an extra treat for spectators who wanted to inspect the car at close quarters as they had the chance to look into the Infiniti Red Bull Racing garage, erected outside the Kingsbury Hotel.
State-of-the-art F1 car
As the curtain fell on the final run, Sri Lankan race fans were left with an unforgettable memory of the speed and power of a state-of-the-art F1 car.
Hype for his run at the Colombo Night Races began a day before the main event, when the RB7 was snapped in a spectacular photo shoot atop the culturally revered Galle Fort. Daniel showed what the car could do and got the gathered crowds cheering as he also drove the car on a section of road outside the Fort.
“The trip to Galle was great. I also got to spend some time on the beach so I was very happy with that. It’s been a great experience. We have had a nice few days here. People have been very friendly and welcoming. So overall I think the journey has been a huge success,” Daniel revealed.
“I wasn’t sure what to expect coming to Sri Lanka. I’ve got quite a lot of attention and everyone has been really enthusiastic so I will definitely remember it. It’s always nice going to a new place and I’ve had some really great experiences here.”
