Inter-Insurance Company Cricket Six-a-Side tourney on Saturday

The Sri Lanka Insurance Institute has organised the Inter-Insurance Company Six-a-Side hard ball cricket tournament for the Hema Wijeratne Challenge Trophy. It is scheduled to commence at 8.00 a.m. on 11 July at the NCC Grounds.

The event is open to all member companies of The Insurance Association of Sri Lanka and The Sri Lanka Insurance Brokers’ Association, which is entitled to be represented by two combined teams. The current holders of the Hema Wijeratne challenge trophy are Asian Alliance Insurance Plc who beat Amana Takaful Plc in the finals.

“We believe this event will bring about a good rapport amongst the insurance community, encourage interaction, build fellowship and create a platform to display their sportsmanship. Though rivals in the business field, there is much unity that will be displayed on the cricket field,” a spokesman for the institute said.

The expected participation is around 20 teams on a knockout basis. Apart from the champions and the runners-up, the best bowler, best batsman, man of the final and the man of the series will be presented with prizes. For those who come to support, there will be a competition for the best decorated canopy and the most vibrant cheering squad. 

The Sri Lanka Insurance Institute (SLII), established in 1981, is the educational arm of the industry. Whilst focusing on enhancing insurance education which is the prime aim of the SLII, we also organise many events to strengthen and build friendship and fellowship amongst members of our industry.
