International rowing regatta in Colombo

The Colombo Rowing Club will host the 73rd annual ARAE/FEARA Regatta - which will feature participants from over six countries who will take to the waters of the Beria Lake - from 11-13 December. The regatta will be held under the auspices of the Amateur Rowing Association of the East (ARAE) and the Far East Amateur Rowing Association (FEARA). More than 150 participants will vie for honours across the ARAE Men’s and Women’s, FEARA Masters (over 35) Men’s and womens and FEARA Super Masters (over 50) Mixed categories. Colombo Rowing Club President Lushantha de Silva said: “Since 1933, the ARAE has been promoting and fostering the sport of rowing. As the Colombo Rowing Club celebrates its sesquicentennial (150) anniversary, it is indeed with great pride that we welcome all the participants to Sri Lanka. I look forward to three days of competitive rowing in the finest traditions of the Colombo Rowing Club.” Regatta Secretary Maheel Gamage said: “The Colombo Rowing Club is ready to host a regatta of international standard with all arrangements in place. Three days of tough racing await as we once again celebrate the rapid growth of rowing, a sport which not only builds character but also promotes friendly competition on a regional basis.” General Manager of the Official Hospitality Partner, Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo, Dermot Gale said: “The Colombo Rowing Club is one of the oldest sporting clubs in Sri Lanka and Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo is indeed proud to be the official Hospitality Partner of this annual international regatta. Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo is passionate about promoting sports and such international regattas will only serve to further foster and encourage the sport of rowing. We are all looking forward to welcoming the participants to the paradise island of Sri Lanka and to the pleasures of the Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo.” The Colombo Rowing Club invites all the members of the general public to join in the action of the event’s final day on 13 December.
