Iran beat hosts India in extra time to win the men’s final while in women’s cup final Uzbekistan beat India at the Asia Rugby Sevens which took place in Chennai last weekend. This served as the Asia Olympic Pre-Qualifiers and the Asian Rugby Football Union (ARFU) Development sevens.
The winners of the men’s and women’s pre-qualifiers will now be included in the Asian Qualifier tournaments that shall take place in Hong Kong (men and women) on 7 and 8 November and later on in Tokyo (women only) on 28 and 29 November. In addition, to help these teams prepare for the competition ahead, they will also stand a chance to join the Asian sevens Series in one of the below events:
China (men and women): 5-6 September
Thailand (men only): 26 -27 September
Sri Lanka (men and women): 10-11 October
Asian Rugby Football Union (ARFU): Six teams participating in the women’s competition of the ARFU Asian Sevens Series Qualifiers in Chennai were Guam, India, Iran, Philippines, South Korea and Uzbekistan. In the men’s development tournament Bangladesh and Nepal made their international sevens debut.
