Isipathana College, defending Singer League 2016 champions, will be the firm favourites at the school Milo Knock-out rugby tournament. The tournament will kick off on 26 June at the Royal Sports Complex between the Peterites and the Katugastota Antonians.
Milo, which has been sponsoring this tournament since 1995, will be disappointed with four leading schools pulling out of the tournament. Science pulled out due to financial difficulties, while Joes and Trinity did so due to injuries. D.S. Senanayake pulled out due to non-preparation and informed at the last moment, giving hardly any time for the preparation for the quarter final encounter against Isipathana which was scheduled to be played today.
Isipathana, last year’s runner-up to Science, will have a walk over in to the semi-finals on 2 July with the winners of the Peter’s and St. Anthony’s match. Isipathana which remained unbeaten this season and coached by Nilfer Ibrahim could expect either the Thomians or Royalist on their way to the Cup Finals.
