Defending Singer League Under 20 Division I rugby champions Isipathana College, led by Sri Lanka Youth player Omalka Gunaratne, will be firing on all cylinders when they confront the unbeaten Joes outfit at the CR&FC grounds on 11 April. This will be the pick of this week’s schools encounters.
Kingswood College will travel down to Colombo for the very first time this season when they meet newcomers to top division rugby C.W.W. Kanangara at the CR&FC grounds on 9 April. Kingswood beat traditional rivals Wesley and lost to the Peterites due to a last-minute penalty. Kingswood should pull it off without any major difficulty.
On 10 April the unbeaten Trinity outfit, led by Sri Lanka youth player Isuru Ranagala, will be up against S. Thomas’ Mount Lavinia in their Canon R.S. De Saram trophy encounter at Havelock Park. Trinity, who beat Dharmaraja and the St. Anthony’s, hold the edge in this encounter. Trinity look solid with their three-quarter line. But the Thomians hold the edge with their heavier set of forwards. On the same day Wesley, who lost both their games, will be up against the Peterites who won one and lost one in their two games.
Isipathana and St. Joseph’s, both of whom are undefeated, are sure to draw a large crowd to Longden Place. This will be a major hurdle for Nilufer Ibrahim and his men in order to retain the school league title this year.
Royal will be hosted by the Rajans at Bogambara. The Antonians, who are going through a bad patch having lost both their games to Trinity and Royal, will be up against the Science College at Nittawela. Science College is an outstanding side with some quick three quarters in their line-up.
