Jamaldeen heads Rugby Referees Society 2012

The 55th Annual General Meeting of Sri Lanka Rugby Referees Society was held at the Police Welfare Auditorium, Colombo 5, on 14 January.

A two minute silence was observed prior to the meeting in honour of the demised DIG Daya Jayasundara.

Nizam Jamaldeen was elected President for another tenure of one year by contesting, receiving the majority of votes of 60 against M. Jayawardane 12 votes.

Jamaldeen thanked all referees who had supported him and done an excellent job during the last season and gallantly faced ups and downs and also thanked the senior referees Vipula Dharmadasa, Tony Amith, Vimal Perera, Wimal Senanayake, Sharmrath Fernando and Anil Jayasingha. He also thanked SLRFU President, the Treasurer and the Secretary for the great support rendered.

Present at the AGM were Snr. DIG Nimal Lewe, Ana Saranapala, S.W. Chang, Vipula Dharmadasa, Rtd SSP S. Sivendran, Tony Amith, Comodore N.K.D. Nanayakkara, Rtd. Brig Japana Jayawardana and Dilroy Fernando and the members of the Rugby Referees Society. Jamaldeen had a special word of thanks for Singer Sri Lanka, the sponsors who have been supporting SLRFU during the past and would continue in the future.

Jamaldeen also expressed thanks for the support in providing referees for over 2,000 matches and around 5,000 assignments which was detailed for schools and clubs in almost all parts of the country including Anuradhapura, Uva, Embilipitiya, Hambantota, Tangalle, etc.

Special thanks were also extended to the referees who accepted many of the outstation matches and accepted assignments on weekdays as well as the school matches.
