Uplifting communal harmony featured heavily in the Janahanda Cricket Festival at Feltham Community College Feltham in England, concluded on 6 July. The festival saw the active participation of 11 cricket clubs. It also saw diverse social communities, brought together by cricket’s appeal. That has always been one of Janahanda’s many social services. The festival proved to be no exception.
Seema Malhotra, M.P. for Heston, Hounslow West and Feltham was Chief Guest. Among others who were present were Minister of Cultural Affairs (attached to the Sri Lankan High Commission) H.M.K. Herath; Leader of the Labour Party and Hounslow Council, Cllr. Jadish Sharma; Cllr. Ruth Cadbury; Cllr. Bandana Chopra; Cllr. PritamGrewal; and Cllr. Mallik.
The event also saw Surya Samaraweera and Kanex Kanagaturai, two of Janahanda’s patrons. Fazzal Mohideen and Nimesh Wickremasinghe coordinated the tournament, along with Vice President Shiran Almeida, Saman Priyantha (secretary), and Sunil B. Perera. Special thanks went out to Rohitha Saman Moragoda, Srimali Perera, Michel, Shanka and Niru, for the indefatigable support extended to this worthy cause.
