Hong Kong's hopes faded after their two defeats on Day 1
Japan was unstoppable
Japan’s women’s rugby players clinched a Rio Olympics berth, winning the Tokyo leg of the Asian qualification tournament yesterday.
Japan, after emerging victorious at the Hong Kong leg of the competition held earlier this month, offered no opportunity to their closest challengers Kazakhstan, when they won the home leg of the six-team event 14-7. Earlier in the group encounters, the Kazakhstan outfit edged out the hosts 7-5 in a tense group encounter.
The Sri Lankan outfit was a yard faster when they outclassed Guam on the opening day as well as in the play-off to claim 5th place. China secured third position over Hong Kong.
